Essendon Roof Restoration

Essendon Roof Restoration

We recently restored this concrete tiled roof in Essendon. When we first attended the property it was clear that the roof was in need of some attention. The roof had many broken and cracked roof tiles, the mortar (or cement) beneath the capping tiles was cracked and breaking away in several areas, the valley irons were rusting and there were patches of moss over the roof. This roof, like many older tiled roofs in the Essendon area, looked dull and was in need of some TLC.

Essendon Roof Restoration – What we did.

Firstly we needed to make the roof safe and water tight.  This was achieved by, firstly, removing and replacing all the valley irons, replacing the cracked and broken roof tiles and then removing and replacing all the mortar (concrete) beneath the capping tiles.  The latter process involves removing all the capping tiles, clearing away all the old mortar, then laying new mortar and re-positioning the capping tiles on top.  The gutters were then cleared of any debris before the next stage of the restoration process begins.
Now that the roof is water tight we gave the tiles a high pressure water clean (3500 psi) to remove any dirt and moss.  Once the roof was clean and dry we applied flexible pointing to the capping tiles.  This is classed as a mechanical fixing, which basically means that its job is to keep your capping tiles secured to your roof during high winds and storms.
The roof was now fully prepared and ready to begin the painting process. Using Nu-Tech painting supplies and a machine specifically designed for spray painting roofs we applied one coat of primer (this gives the paint something to stick to), a base coat of paint and a top coat of paint.  The property was then cleaned of any debris.
The beautiful charcoal colour really breaths new life into this home and H&R Roofing Services have another happy customer.
